On Monday 26 April, UDSF sommeliers met to taste nearly 250 wines made from Cabernet grapes.

Philippe Faure-Brac, ‘World’s Best Sommelier’, presided over the tasting, at which 25 Gold and 47 Silver medals were awarded. After a second tasting, a Grand Jury of experts elected the World’s Best Cabernet.

72 award-winning wines
61 foreign wines (19 Gold and 42 Silver)
11 French wines (6 Gold and 5 Silver)
Australia obtained 11 medals (4 Gold and 7 Silver)

Always on the lookout for a new treasure, the trophy has risen to the heights of the Ötztal Alps!
The Italien Riserva ‘Graf’ 2017 Cabernet won over the Grand Jury composed of professional sommeliers, including Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommeliers such as Fabrice Sommier:
“The ruby robe indicates good ageing. The red berry nose has a light and very pleasant vegetal touch. Blackberry, raspberry, and black currant notes are also present, with a hint of mushrooms. The attack is fresh and delicate, with a very nice length in the mouth. It has a kind of sweetness yet no residual sugar.
This wine can accompany a traditional springtime dish like a slowly roasted leg of lamb or lamb shoulder, which always go very well with Cabernets. For a more oriental pairing, it can be served with a tajine or pigeon pastilla, or with miso-glazed salmon.
This wine, which will soften over time, has a lot of density and richness but is also fresh and delicious. It is an intricate, delicate and elegant wine with very good ageing potential.”
