Australia honoured for the second time in a row: Penny’s Hill receives the Trophy for the World’s Best Cabernet

On Monday 25 April, 29 sommeliers members of the UDSF met on a Bateau Parisien to taste 220 wines made from Cabernet grapes.
After an initial tasting that resulted in 23 Gold and 44 Silver medal winners, a second tasting by an expert jury elected the World’s Best Cabernet.
Penny’s Hill produces the World’s Best Cabernet!
Australia seems to be a particularly favourable place for growing this grape variety and turning it into wine--the Trophy for the World’s Best Cabernet was awarded to an Australian winemaker for the second time.
Located in the southern part of McLaren Vale (Australia), Penny’s Hill had the brilliant idea of presenting its Edwards Road cuvée, designation of origin ‘GI McLaren Vale, Rouge 2014’ at the Cabernets International Competition.
Its nose with red fruit notes and a hint of mild tobacco delighted tasters, who also appreciated the wine’s structure, balance and very good length in the mouth. This is a magnificent Cabernet Sauvigon, rich and full of promise.
Union de la Sommellerie Française (UDSF): a flagship partner to guarantee an outstanding tasting
This year Michel Hermet, President of the Union de la Sommellerie Française (UDSF), agreed to serve as Honorary President of the Competition.
With other UDSF sommeliers at his side, Michel Hermet put all his organoleptic knowledge and tasting talents at the service of the Cabernets registered for the tasting.
