It is in South Africa, in the heart of the Stellenbosch Valley, that the trophy for the Best Cabernet of the World is taken.
The South-African Cabernet Sauvignon « GS » made by David Finalyson Wines won over the Grand Jury composed of professional sommeliers and Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommeliers.
« The heavy bottle, massive as a medieval castle, bodes well for a wine that is worth the wait.
Nobility, of course. Yet also a youthfulness revealed by the purple reflections in its robe. Initial coffee and chocolate notes signal a certain ardour, and are a sign of the wine’s noble ageing.
In the mouth we recognise the tannins only hinted at in the first nose. The tannins are there: softened, not excessive, just asking to take their time, in the shelter of their castle. Just-budding strawberry jelly and menthol flavours are slowly flowering.
Superb Cabernet Sauvignon with a magnificent aptitude for ageing »
