Cabernets International Competition: 2nde edition over the Seine!

Published on 2015-03-02

The first edition of the Cabernets International Competition –CIDC has been a real success with more than 230 wines tasted. The second edition will takes place on 27 April 2015, in Paris, on board of a boat over the Seine.

The Cabernets
The Cabernets International Competition is the first one to highlight this grape variety. There are many cabernets: the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Dorio, Cabernet Moravia and many others. These grape varieties have a special feature: they can match with others Cabernets, or with some very different grape varieties. The global production of Cabernets represents more than 210 000 hectares.
The competition is open to all wines in the world, with or without a geographical denomination, made mainly with Cabernet.

The Bateaux Parisiens, an exceptional site at the foot of the Eiffel Tower
Anchored in La Bourdonnais port at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the fleet of boats known collectively as the ‘Bateaux Parisiens’ are a prestigious setting for a tasting. Tasters note wines as they travel down the Seine surrounded by Paris’ greatest treasures: the Grand Palais, Louvre museum, Notre Dame Cathedral… In all, 12 mythical sites dotting the river banks can be viewed from the boats.
It’s a safe bet that the tasters will be favourably impressed!

The Union de la Sommellerie Française
The Union de la Sommellerie Française (UDSF) is partnering the competition. This organisation brings together nearly 1200 sommeliers and selects the best Sommelier of France, amongst other awards.
Juries made up of 3 sommeliers blind taste several wines in a category. Prior to tasting, bottles are covered, numbered and sorted in accordance with their percentage of cabernet, origin and terroir.
Results are sent to all the members of the UDSF.

Election of the World’s Best Cabernet: The ultimate award!
At the end of the first tasting, a ‘grand jury’ re-tastes the best wine at each table to determine the best Cabernet in the world. The grand jury is made up of professional wine-tasters recognised in their field (Meilleur Ouvrier de France, Meilleur Sommelier de France, Sommelier de l’Année, etc.).

A tasting according to the standards!
The CIDC was validated by the DGCCRF (part of the French Ministry of the economy and finances), and the competition organisation is ISO 9001 certified through Armonia, the company organising the event.
It guarantees wine producers that Armonia is committed to showcasing their work. Consumers, for their part, will see it as a sign of rigorous selection, high quality and a competition worthy of their trust.
