Award-winners in the 1st Cabernets International Competition announced

First of all, tasting was by the Union de la Sommellerie Française. Juries of 3 sommeliers (18 tasters in all) blind tasted a category of several wines. Prior to tasting, bottles were covered, numbered and sorted in accordance with their percentage of cabernet, origin and terroir.
Competition regulations are overseen by the DGCCRF, which is part of the French Ministry of the economy and finance. Finally, the organisation of the competition is also ISO 9001 certified: its quality procedures are verified by an external auditor. The competition itself was a world tour of the best Cabernet wines: 229 wines tasted, 19 countries represented, 55% of the wines tasted came from outside France (countries with the most entries: Italy and Australia).
AND THE WINNERS OF CIDC 2014 ARE...
At this first edition, two wines from Portugal have been given the place of honour. The first two CIDC 2014 award-winners are: In the predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon category The Vinho regional Alentajano 2009 Tapada De Coelheiros from Herdade Dos Coelheiros, remarkable for the finesse of its tannins and the creamy note experienced on the palate. In the pure Cabernet Sauvignon category The Vinho Regional Ribatejo 2012 ‘Quinto Elemento’ from Quinta do Arrobe, which won the jury over with its freshness, richness and elegance.
73 AWARD-WINNING WINES
France obtains 41% of the awards 73 wines received medals at this competition: 30 gold and 43 silver medals were awarded. Of this number, 30 of the award-winners, i.e. 41%, were French wines. Twelve were designated Gold Medal wines and 18 were named Silver Medal wines.

THE COMPETITION'S JURY
The Competition’s Jury was made up of 18 tasters. These experts are well-known and internationally recognised for their seriousness, skill and expertise in the field of wine.
ABOUT THE CABERNETS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION (CIDC)
The CIDC is organised by Armonia. Armonia, created in 1987, specialises in the organisation of wine-related events. The company organises, for example, wine competitions such as the Lyon International Wine Competition, the International Gamay Competition in partnership with Inter Beaujolais and the ‘Un vin presque parfait’ television programme with M6 television station. Last year the company, which is passionate about wine and a veritable expert in the field, decided to organise an entirely new competition featuring Cabernet wines. This first edition of the Cabernets International Competition took place at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme on June 20, 2014, and boasted a jury of 18 world-renowned tasters.
